Archaeology Notes

NT65SW 12 c.635 504.

A Roman bronze patera possibly of 2nd century AD date (A S Robertson 1970), was donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland [NMAS] in 1920 together with other objects from the collection of Lady John Scott of Spottiswoode. (Accession No: FT 88) It measures 6 15/16ins in diameter by 3 1/8ins in height, and was described on the original label as "found in 1882 while a drain was being dug near the house at Whitehill, Westruther".

The house of Whitehill, Westruther is situated at NT 6354 5042. No further siting evidence was found during field investigation.
