Archaeology Notes

NT63SW 17 c. 60 31.

'Implements of Mesolithic facies have been reported from the Fens, St. Boswells Ph, Roxb.'

A D Lacaille 1954.

A club-shaped stone, later identified as a fossilised tree branch was found about ten years ago by men digging drains in the vicinity of the farm-buildings at Fens. It was first given to Mr Grossart, plumber, St. Boswells, who had it identified by the Museum in Edinburgh. It is now in the possession of Mr Kerr, Fens.

Neither Mr. Grossart nor Mr. Kerr had any knowledge of other finds in the area.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 14 September 1962.
