Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Five cultivation terraces can be identified in an area of unimproved ground to the southwest of Brotherstone Hill West.

The terraces survive as prominent scarps, standing up to 1m high in places, which follow the contour of the hillside. They were formed through a build-up of soil created by repeated ploughing of the area.

These features may be of considerable antiquity, and may even be contemporary with the nearby prehistoric fort which occupies the summit of Brotherstone Hill West.
