Mr. Douglas came to me this morning with the within plan and estimate exactly taken from the drawing of the Cornice and frieze of your drawing room which I got from Mr. Nisbet, plasterer which I have sent you to compare the one with the other. There are two other designs for the side parts with the griffens which are not so much crowded. I think the estimate is high but you may depend upon the work in the most masterly manner and best statuary marble. If you approve send me back the plan of the Chimney and be so good as send in that of the cornice to Nisbet by the Carrier (Letter from Hew Dalrymple at Brouton St. to his Father at North Berwick House).
