(Name: NT 5168 7400) Site of Chapel (NR)
OS 1:1056 map (1854)
Remains of a chapel stood here up till 1811, forming part of an old house in which the font was preserved. In 1811, this house was removed and a new one erected on its site. Mr T Hardie, who was present at the time, states that human remains were discovered when digging the foundations for the new building. Nothing is known of the history of the chapel.
Name Book 1853
St Katherine's Chapel stood on the west side of Hardgate. (This agrees with the OS siting.)

Though it is suggested (J Farquharson 1885) that the name "Katie's Garden" indicated the site of St Catherine's Chapel, this name is "Lady Kitty's Garden" - at NT 5186 7373, and the weight of evidence would support the OS siting. No further information was found during field investigation.
Visited by OS (BS) 9 July 1975
The name "Lady Kitty's Garden" refers to Lady Catherine Charteris.
