(NT 5330 7661) Fort (NR) (remains of)

OS 6" map (1968)

The remains of this fort occupy a grass-covered rocky hillock which has been extensively quarried, especially on the W. On the S are the remains of a terrace, 60.0m in length, starting abruptly from the quarry edge, curving to the NE, and fading out on the approaches to the crest of the Law. The terrace has an average width of about 2.5m and is some 2.0m above the level of a cart-track on its S side; the top scarp has a height of approximately 1.5m. There is no trace of the terrace on the N and no traces of any other earthworks.

Visited by OS (BS) 15 July 1975

Photographed by the RCAHMS (1977, 1979, 1992, 1995 and 1996) and by CUCAP (1955).

This is not a fort, but a quarry and associated trackway. See NT57NW 89 for the nearby fort.
