Archaeology Notes

NT54SE 35 5709 4139

Oblique aerial photography has revealed the cropmarks of a possible enclosure 1km SE of Birkenside farmsteading. It has an irregular shape, with a curved W side, a relatively straight E side, and open on the S and N sides. It measures about 90m N-S by 70m transversely. The cropmarks of two other enclosures have been recorded in the same field (NT54SE 21 and NT54SE 58 ).
