Archaeology Notes

NT53SW 4 514 303.

A few fragments of flint and chert were found in January 1925 in the fields that encircle Whitlaw Hill (White Law: NT 514 303), on the lower area. Nearer the top of the hill a small quartz polisher and a small whetstone were found. At the top of the hill a section of a jet armlet measuring 1 3/4 ins in depth (donated to the NMAS), two arrowheads of chert, one leaf-shaped, the other barbed, two pigmy flints and two broken whetstones were found.

A side scraper of jasper, measuring 1 5/8 ins by 3/4 ins 'from Whitlaw' is also in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS).

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1927

T Scott ARSA, Bowden, owned a collection of over 600 flint artifacts of all types. Whitlaw is listed as one of the places from where they had been obtained.
