Archaeology Notes

NT53SW 13 c. 512 323

A Late Bronze Age ribbed and socketed bronze axe, found on the margin of Cauldshields Loch (NT 512 323) was bequeathed to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1917 (Accession no: DE 76). It is 3 ins long by 2 1/4 ins across the cutting edge.

(Socketed axe of Yorkshire type). Single find. Socketed axe, smooth, brown and green, blade hammered, trimmed; length 75mm, mouth 27 x 29mm, cutting edge 57mm, weight 255 gms. NMAS DE 76.
