(NT 53813417) High Cross (NR) (Supposed site of)

OS 25" map (1859)

The supposed site of a high cross which marked the spot where pilgrims from the west first glimpsed the spires of Melrose Abbey (NT53SW 30). The cross, which stood on an eminence, had disappeared by 1743 but the district still retains the name, Highcross.

No further information concerning this cross was found.
