Archaeology Notes

NT51SW 23 c. 5022 1469

There is a claystone axe, measuring 5" by 2", and fractured at its cutting edge, in Hawick Musuem. It was found at Fairy Faulds, which is where the road from Edinburgh forded the Teviot before entering Hawick by the North Port.

The ford, Fairy Faulds, was at NT 5022 1469. The axe cannot be located in the museum. (R E Scott, Hawick Museum)
