Archaeology Notes

NT51SE 25.1 587 127

An entrance doorway of red sandstone from the old house of Weens has been reset in the NW wall of the kitchen garden. It dates from the 18th century and has a moulded architrave with rusticated blocks, and a lintel displaying a heavy triple keystone. It measures 6 ft 1 in in height by 3 ft in breadth.

A sundial, presumably from the old house, stands on top of the SE wall of the kitchen garden. It is of grey freestone, cubical in shape and with a curved and moulded top from which the finial is missing. Each side bears a dial, on which the sun is represented as a human face.
