(NT 5472 1992) Monk's Tower (NR) (Site of)

The Object Name Book of the Ordnance Survey describes the 'site of Monk's Tower' as 'Was one of the old Border Tower's or Keeps' belonging to the family of the Scotts flourished about the fifteenth century. "Monks' Tower" was the proper name - it is most generally known as Hassendean Tower. Every vestige of the Tower was removed about fifteen years ago- the stones were chiefly used in the erection of Hassendean farm-house.
