(NT 4758 8171) Brand's Well (NR)

OS 6" map (1968)

Brand's Well, the only spring of water on Gala Law, is possibly a holy well endowed at Gullane by David I.

J Hardy 1885

Brand's Well (name confirmed) is a flat-topped stone structure 2.2m x 1.1m x 1.0m high, containing a cast-iron trough with a supply pipe protruding above it in the NW wall. It is now completely dry. Inspection shows, however, that it was supplied by pipe from another well situated 23.0m to the NW; this has an abundant supply still flowing through the pipe, which ends almost at Brand's Well, and thence to waste in an open drain.
