(NT 41244 67360) Dovecot (NAT)

OS 6" map (1970)

Ormiston Hall dovecot is cylindrical, built of ashlar sandstone. It rests on a plinth and is surmounted by a parapet.

A N Robertson 1957

This dovecot is generally as described. It is of no great age, certainly not as old as Ormiston Hall itself (see NT46NW 17).

Visited by OS (BS) 20 October 1975

This 18th century (C McWilliam 1978) dovecot is 10ft in diameter at 4ft frmm the ground and 24ft high. The walls are 1ft 2ins thick; there are two windows and, on the S side, thirteen entrance holes. Internally, there are 168 wooden nesting boxes, but the dovecot is deserted.

J Whitaker 1938
