This almost square lectern type dovecot is contemporary with the nearby mansion of Pilmuir (built 1624 - see NT46NE 10). It contains 906 stone nesting boxes entered by holes halfway up to the pitch of the roof.

This dovecot measures 6.0m E-W by 5.5m; it has a back wall 9.0m high, a front wall 6.0m high, and a single string course.

Activities

Field Visit (23 June 1913)

DOVECOT. Some 100 yards south-east of the house is a contemporary dovecot, rectangular on plan, having a lean-to roof (fig. 24). It is 25 feet in height, measures externally 19 feet 2 inches by 17 feet 4 inches and contains stone boxes for over 1000 birds.
