Archaeology Notes

NT45SE 30 498 517

The old manor place and fortalice of Collielaw stood a little to the SW of the present farmhouse and steading (at NT 498 517); the site is indicated by a few trees and traces of old wall foundations. The remaining vestiges of stone buildings were still in good evidence about seventeen years ago, according to the present steward, who used them as shelter for stock, but they have since been removed to build dykes.

The earliest historical reference to Collielaw occurs about 1206, and the 'tower, fortalice, and manor place' of Collielaw are mentioned in a deed of 1724.

A Allan 1900.
