(Undated) information in NMRS.

The predecessor of the present Bowland House is said to have been a hunting-seat of the Bishops of St Andrews, but was greatly enlarged in 1811 and completely rebuilt in 1902. There is a small square dovecot beside the house.

A sandstone cross, about 4 ft tall and apparently shaped for a socket lay in a summer-house in 1913. In 1883 it surmounted the west gable of the house.

A 17th century bell hanging on a tree in front of the house came from St Giles's Church, Edinburgh, about 1900.
