Archaeology Notes

NT42NE 46 469 273.

Parallel dykes show on RCAMS air photographs. These possibly relate to the dyke of the Medieval Royal Forest which existed at Selkirk. The bank(s) can be traced two-thirds of the way round Haining Loch, coinciding with that shown on Scott's map of 1757.

J M Gilbert, Jan 1986; 1979; T Craig-Brown 1886

Longest bank excavated. No postholes visible; no evidence that it would have contained deer without hedge or fence. Clay pipe stem found near middle of bank.

NMRS, MS/896/1.
