Archaeology Notes

NT41SW 19 412 129.

A Langdale type polished stone axe, measuring 4 1/2 ins by 1 3/4 ins by 3/4 in, from Burnfoot farm (NT 412 129) was donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) by Mr Scott. He confirmed that the axe had definitely been found on Burnfoot farm, but it was not possible to trace the exact location. The farmer stated that it was a surface find and added that at one time a gentleman used to come each year at ploughing time to search for flints but he could not localise these fields. (Information from F Scott, 4 Dovecote Street, Hawick, dated 7 October 1966)
