(NT 4783 1511) Homestead (NR)
OS 25" map (1967)
This homestead is situated at the SW end of a spur which runs out from the E side of Wiltonburn Hill, at a height of 800 ft O D. It is subrectangular on plan; the N and S sides each measure 150 ft in length, the W side 100 ft and the E side 75 ft. The single stony bank, which has no ditch, stands to a height of 3 ft where best preserved and is spread to a width of about 20 ft. Some boulders in situ along the W side indicate that there was a stone facing at least on the outer side of the bank, though this has been almost obliterated by stone-robbing along its N side. There is an entrance gap 10 ft wide in the middle of the W side of the structure, and another, 8 ft wide, near the E end of the S side. Within there is a terrace at the E end, at the NW side of which there is a hut circle, 25 ft in diameter; another, less well preserved, lies 10 yds to the W. A slight rock-cut ditch with an external bank crosses the ridge 70 ft E of the homestead.
RCAHMS 1956, visited 1948
This homestead is as described by the R C A H M. In addition to the two hut circles mentioned by them, there is a probable third one, about 9.5 m in diameter, lying within and against the NW angle.
Resurveyed at 1:2500.
