'In a book on Upper Teviotdale, the writer says "There was such a well (Holy) at Priesthaugh to which sick people repaired and 'by charm of priest and miracle' expected to get relief from their aches and pains... in May 1614, it was reported to the Presbytery of Jedburgh that people resorted to Priesthaugh Well in pilgrimage."
R E Scott 1935
(NT4652 0474) 'Immediately south of the house (Priesthaugh Farmhouse) is a spring which may be the holy well that formed the resort of zealous pilgrims as late as 1614'.
G Watson 1946
There is no trace of a well in the vicinity of Priesthaugh, but two springs lie at the foot of the W slopes of Gray Coat at NT 4669 0468 and 4668 0445. These springs have now been piped to supply water to Priesthaugh and Priesthaugh Cottages.
