Archaeology Notes

NT40SE 11 c. 46 04.

In a moss on the farm of Priesthaugh a few years before the finding of the hoard of gold coins attributed to Queen Mary (which were found in the late 18th century and were in the possession of Mr Elliot, of Redhaugh, about 1795 (NT40SE 10), a box containing 120 silver coins were found. They were variously inscribed and at that time were computed to value about 3 pence each. Some of the coins were said to have been clipped or cut in the edges and not coined.
