Archaeology Notes

NT40NE 49 480 067

The small farm of Whitehillbrae lay between Dodburn (NT 474 074) and Penchrise (NT 495 067); it was occupied in the 1930's. The remains of the house and the old fields of plough rigs and sod dykes can easily be made out from the road.

Hawick Express 14 May 1979

The ruins of Whitehillbrae, comprising a croft and stone dyke enclosures, are clearly visible at NT 480 067. The name is still known locally.

Visited by OS (JRL) 6 November 1979.

The farmstead and enclosures are visible on vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 433, 3200-3201, flown 24 June 1945).
