The 18th c dovecot at Eskgrove is a prominent object, rectangular, measuring 17'6" x 14'11", with the back wall 34' high. There are three string courses but the topmost is only present on the back wall and for a short way on each crowstepped gable. The pigeons entered by 10 openings in the slated roof, which slopes S.

This dovecot is generally as described except that the roof is now in a state of disrepair.

2-storey lectern dovecot Sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings; 2 rat courses; coped skews with kneelers. Door to S elevation with oeil-de-boeuf window below eaves at centre. Currently roofless (1989). 150 nesting boxes in lower storey, 131 in upper. The dovecot stands on land which originally belonged to the Colts of Inveresk House (former manse), hence the earlier date is possible. ( Historic Scotland)

Dovecots.
Rectangular dovecots dating from the 18th century stand in the grounds of Inveresk Gate and Eskgrove, Inveresk, and there is a third dovecot beside the premises of the Musselburgh and Fisherrow Co-operative Society in North High Street, Musselburgh.
