Archaeology Notes

HU31NE 3 38790 18803

HU 388 188. A round cairn lies on the summit of Hallilee Hill, called Ward of Scousburgh on the OS map.

J Stewart 1956.

At HU 3877 1879, an amorphous mass of large stones lying on top of the peat and surmounted by an OS trig pillar.

This is probably a cairn of some antiquity, the clean appearance of the stones being due to scouring by the elements. A rough kerb of stones, except in the SE where the trig has destroyed it, indicates a diameter of c.9.5m.

Visited by OS (RL) 10 May 1968.
