The ice house lies in the woods about 200 yds NE of Drum House (NT36NW 35), and to the west of a quarry. The builders of this ice house made use of a quarry fissure in the rocks, and roofed the rock chamber by means of a stone arch. The ice chamber is thus a large subterranean tunnel open at both ends. The upper surface of the arch is covered with soil, raised in an arch shape so that it resembles a 'long barrow'. The north and south walls are mainly formed of strata of rock. The upper part of the walls is formed by the arch of hewn sandstone which is two feet thick. The tunnel is about 12ft wide, 80ft long, and 24ft high.
