Archaeology Notes

NT33SW 34.00 32009 33461

NT33SW 34.01 Centred NT32012 33454 Churchyard

For possible cup-markings in the churchyard, see NT33SW 36.

The present parish church of Traquair was erected in 1778, the date incised on the keystone of a window on the S side. There is some doubt as to whether earlier parish churches stood on this or some other site (see NT33SW 12) but in view of the presence of 17th c tombstones in the churchyard it seems certain that at least the immediate predecessor of the present building stood here.

RCAHMS 1967, visited 1963.
