Archaeology Notes

NC54NE 1 578 489

(NC 578 489) An Caisteal - the castle or the fort - is the highest pinnacle of Ben Lyal, 2504ft, and bears the ruins of a building called Caisteal na Druidhich, the druid's castle.

J Mackay 1892.

This site was not investigated, but observation from the ground suggests that it is most unlikely a fort existed here.

Visited by OS (JLD), 27 April 1960.

An Caisteal is a natural rocky pinnacle. There is no local knowledge of a building on the summit.

Visited by OS (NKB), 29 September 1978.
