(NT 2536 9379) Chapel (NR) (Supposed site of)

OS 6" map, (1938)

Probable site of chapel indicated many years ago by 'oldmen'. Seven urns, some containing human bones, found when making a garden well.

Name Book 1854.

Saint Ninian's Chapel is mentioned in 1563 and 1582, but it is not clear whether the references are to a chapel of the village of Chapel.

L MacBean 1908.

No further information about chapel or urns was encountered during field investigation. Site now located in a disused quarry.

Visited by OS (J D) 2 October 1954.
