The rectangular dovecot, close to Ravelston House was probably built in 1630. The upper string course is on the back wall and gables only, while the lower is on all four walls. Internally, there are two square chambers, with a total of 1436 nest holes. Each chamber has an entrance in the front wall, with a window over it, which also served as an entrance for the birds, which also entered by two dormer windows in the S-sloping stone roof. Only the W dormer remains.
A N Robertson 1945.
NT 2171 7398 This dovecot has been converted to a private house, but is still generally as described.
Visited by OS (B S) 2 December 1975.

DOVECOT. A large 17th-century dovecot stands a few yards north-east of the tower, and apparently lay outside the enclosure. Itis rectangular on plan and measures 18 ¼ feet by 29 feet. The high back wall is surmounted by three ball finials. The roof is stone-flagged, and the nests are of stone.
