The Battle of Rullion Green or Battle of the Pentland Hills was fought between Royalist troops under Dalziel and Covenanters under Wallace on 28 November 1666, and resulted in the defeat of the Covenanters. (Examination of the plan in Terry 1905 with which Sidgwick agrees - together with the detailed account by Terry, shows that the OS siting is incorrect and that the action was centred to the west of Turnhouse at approximately NT 218 625).
