(Name NT 2415 5034) Ship Horns (NAT)

OS 6" map (1957)

There is a barrow, cairn, possibly long (information from O G S Crawford undated) near the Ship Law, called the Ship-horns as it resembles the inverted hull of a ship. The Ordnance Survey Name Book (ONB), however, describes Ship Horns as a small hill, on the summit of which are four small conical hills, its base having the appearance of a ship's hold.

G Chalmers 1810; A Armstrong 1775; Name Book 1856

This hill has now been quarried away.

Visited by OS (RD) 6 February 1970
