(NT 2610 4133) Enclosure (NR)

OS 6" map (1964)

On the E flank of Venlaw there is a settlement which has been heavily denuded by stone-robbing and ploughing. Measuring 110' x 90', it has been enclosed by a wall which is still visible for a short distance on the NW in the form of a very low bank 17' in width. Elsewhere, however, the line of the wall is represented only by a scarp in which four contiguous facing-stones are visible at one point. The entrance is on the S.

The interior, which has been excavated to a depth of 5' on the SW side, exhibits one house-platform measuring 20' across. The presence of several others is suggested by slight depression too indefinite plan. (Information from R W Feachem notebook 1963-4, 27)
