Archaeology Notes

NT24NW 21 208 469.

NT 207 469 and NT 208 470. A group of four ring enclosures, consisting of two pairs, lie half a mile NE of Courhope at a height of 1100ft OD. The SW pair, which are 19 yds apart, are 20ft and 30ft in diameter respectively; one has a gap in the bank on the SE, and a shallow groove can be seen in the top of the bank of the other. The NE pair, which lie 160 yds away, are 40 yds apart and each measures 38ft in diameter. One of them exhibits a shallow groove in the top of the bank; the other has been damaged by the foundations of a rectangular building. (One enclosure appears on OS 6" 1966 at NT 2083 4707.)
