Archaeology Notes

NC50SE 60 5740 0225.

(NC 572 021) Kerb cairn, circa 3.0m in diameter, by roadside 150m NE of chambered cairn.

Information from Dr J Close-Brooks, National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) to OS, 12 May 1980.

At NC 5740 0225, on a slight shelf 60m from the River Shin, this small 'kerb' cairn is well delineated by a peristalith of contiguous boulders. It measures 2.5m diameter and the stone content levels off with the top of the kerb, which varies from 0.3 to 0.6m high; one or two of the kerb stones are loose. Some small field-clearance stones have been thrown on the cairn.

Surveyed at 1:10 000.

Visited by OS (J M) 12 June 1981.
