Ettrick Village (Site). No remains of any interest are now to be seen at the site of this village, though a remarkable zig-zag peat-road leads up the steep hill-face to the south. The place-name "Weaver's Moss" on the O.S. map near the upper end of this road suggests that the vanished village was at one time a weavers' settlement.

The village was destroyed about the beginning of the 18th century. The sites of some of the houses are marked by old banks.

NT 2540 1399 There is a disturbed area, the site of the old village, within the enclosed land to the S. of Ettrick House. The remains of four rectangular buildings, varying from about 4.0 x 5.6 m. up to about 10.8 x 5.2 m. in size, can be seen . The largest building is formed by a turf-covered bank of earth and stone, 2.0 m. wide by about 0.3m. high, with an entrance c. 1.8m. wide on its N. side. The two buildings to the NW of the largest are outlined by traces of stone walling and are joined together by a stone wall. The remaining building is outlined by a very slight turf bank and lies to the NE of the large building. Between these two buildings is a slight scarp c. 0.5m. high, with some traces of stone in its face. SW of the large building is another rectangular foundation of stones, 6.0m. by 4.0m., just outside the enclosed area. Extending up the hillside to the south of the enclosed land are the remains of several fields enclosed by turf banks.
