Although designated a parish church in 1429/30, prior to the Reformation Beath church appears to have been only a chapel of Dalgety, belonging as such to t he abbey of Inchcolm from at least 1178. After the Reformation, it was disused until 1640, when a new church was built. This church, in turn, was replaced by the present church, built 1832 and enlarged in 1886.
