Archaeology Notes

NT19NW 16 1365 9947, 1364 9948 and 1368 9942

Cropmarks have revealed at least two, and possibly three ring-ditches strung out over a distance of 75m along a low rise 300m ESE of Classlochie. They range from 7m to 10m in diameter within narrow ditches and the central one has a crescentric feature immediately within the ditch on the NE and possibly traces of an internal ring too. The cresentic feature is comparable to marks occuring on a number of unenclosed setttlements revealed by cropmarks and the ring-ditches may well indicate the position of timber houses.

Information from RCAHMS (CAA, SH) November 1989.

Scheduled as Classlochie, ring-ditches.

Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 23 February 2001.
