(NC 5710 0200) Chambered Cairn (NR)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1970)

A chambered Cairn of the Orkney-Cromarty type with a rectangular chamber. The cairn, which has been partially removed, is composed of large, water-worn pebbles and is covered with turf. When the site was visited a tree had been recently uprooted between the two sets of stones near the northern perimeter, and showed cairn material. There was no sign of a passage.

The dimensions of the cairn are about 80ft by 65ft with the chamber oriented along the main axis which lies NNE-SSW.

RCAHMS 1911; A S Henshall 1963.

The remains of this cairn are generally as described above. The cairn is 22.0m NNE-SSW by 19.7m ESE-WNW and its maximum height is 1.5m.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (R D L) 28 June 1963.

No change to previous field report.

Visited by OS (J M) 1 September 1976.
