NT17SW 34 14 74.
A short cist was found by Mr. Hutchison on his lands at Carlowrie, on low ground within 1/2 mile of the Cat Stane (NT17SW 1), and about 1 mile SW of the cist of Craigie Hill (NT17NE 13). Its coverstone, much broken by the plough, is described by Simpson as having its underside marked with at least three series of concentric circles, each set being composed of 5 circles, widest diameter 5". However, this does not agree with his, and the RCAHMS copy of his illustration, which shows cup-and-three-ring-marks. The cist lay N-S, and contained, black fatty earth, traces of decomposed bones, and one or two human teeth.
The cover-stone does not appear to have been preserved.

No indication of the site of the cist exists in family records or traditions, but it is most likely to have been found on the lower ground near the river, possibly c.NT 142 741, from the distances given. No further information (Miss Hitchison, Carlowrie).
