Corstorphine Castle was built by Sir Adam Forrester between 1374, when he acquired the lands, and his death in 1405; it was bounded by a strong curtain wall with a tower at each angle (D M Thomson 1946). It was nearly all demolished about 1797, and the Ordnance Survey Name Book (ONB 1852) states that it was said to have been surrounded by a ditch, which was supplied by water from two lochs, one on each side of the castle. When the castle was being demolished, workmen found a deposit of gold and silver coins nearby (NSA 1845).

Part of this castle is shown extant in 1852 (OS 6" map), but no trace now remains. The site is in the garden of 22 Castle Avenue; the occupants have found no traces of masonry or anything of archeological interest. No information found regarding the coin hoard.
