Archaeology Notes

NT17NW 31 c. 117 767.

A Roman coin with the letters IAN distinctly inscribed, the rest illegible, and the handle of a vessel supposed to have been used by the Romans in their sacrifices, were found not far from Dundas Castle (NT 1178 7671) at a considerable depth between the parallel walls discovered underground (? a reference to the cists found at Moat Knowe - NT 1188 7676 - see NT17NW 8).

(This is not a duplication of NT17NW 2 which is mentioned separately). NSA 1845 (J Scott)
