(NT 1584 7914) Earl Cairnie (NAT) Cairn (NR)

OS 6" map (1968)

In 1791, this cairn also known as Harlaw Cairn (RCAHMS 1929, visited 1926) was described as being about 160' in diameter and 24' in height, but now, after extensive robbing, it measures only 100' in diameter and is 'in height, still a most impressive monument'. There remains, however, a stony mound at a distance of about 40' from the edge of the ruin, and it is possible that this may represent an original perimeter (R W Feachem 1963).

Statistical Account (OSA) 1791

As described.

Visited by OS (JP) 19 August 1974.
