(NT 1154 4368) Earthwork (NR)

OS 6" map (1968)

On a low ridge 70 yds from the right bank of the Lochurd Burn there is an oval enclosure measuring 200ft by 100ft within a ploughed-out bank which is spread to a width of 30ft and stands to a height of only a few inches. The entrance is on the E.

(Information from R W Feachem notebook 1958, 48)

RCAHMS 1967, visited 1958

All that now remains is a slight scarp following the original shape. During ploughing, which has removed any banks, the farmer removed a considerable amount of sand and some gravel.

Revised at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (EGC) 27 August 1964 and (SFS) 4 November 1974

Air photographs (RCAHMSAP 1995) show the cropmark of this oval enclosure. This site is depicted as 'fort, remains of' on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Peebleshire 1864, sheet vii).

Information from RCAHMS (KB) 16 February 1999
