Archaeology Notes

NT14NE 20 16270 49662

(NT 1626 4965) The old house of Spitalhaugh, said to have been erected in 1678, was almost entirely rebuilt in the third quarter of the 19th century, and the building is to all appearances a Victorian mansion. (The name is said to derive from a hospital - see NT14NE 18).

RCAHMS 1967, visited 1958

Externally the house is of no architectural importance.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 25 August 1964 and (SFS) 14 October 1974
