(NT 1680 3493) Chapel (Private) (on site of) (NAT)

Dalwick Church (NR)

OS 6" map, (1963).

Dawyck was originally a chapelry of Stobo; it became an independent parish soon after the Reformation but was suppressed in 1742. Part of the walls of the old church stood until 1837, when they were levelled to make way for the present chapel. Within the chapel there is a font, probably of late Medieval date, set on a modern pedestal.

The bell, another relic of the old church, is now inaccessible, but it is said to bear an inscription saying that it was cast in 1642, and recast in 1791.

RCAHMS 1967, visited 1958.

No trace of the old church remains. The chapel is still in use, and the font is within the chapel.

Visited by OS(EGC) 22 June 1961 and (DWR) 8 August 1972.
