Archaeology Notes

NT13NW 8.01 1273 3538.

The settlement situated immediately NE of the fort (NT13NW 8.00) comprises an unenclosed group of ruined walls and shallow courts occupying an area measuring 185' x 100' in extent. The ruined walls, which presumably represent the foundations of houses and other buildings, appear as double lines of earth-fast boulders c 4' apart.

The most complete wall, at the W end of the settlement, outlines a circular structure, probably a house, c 35' in internal diameter. The other walls, and the courts, are less regular in shape.

RCAHMS 1967, visited 1958.

NT 1273 3538 : A settlement as described.

Visited by OS(EGC) 19 June 1964 and (BS) 18 November 1974.
