Archaeology Notes

HU27NW 4 2239 7903.

HU 224 791 A Square, chambered cairn lies on the gently sloping hillside above Muckla Water and commands wide view to the south. There is almost no cairn material left and the structural stones are small shapeless lumps of agglomerate, hardly projecting above the turf. Most of the kerb stones are visible. Around the chamber, and taking up most of the space between it and the kerb stones is a circle of flat stones, their tops flush with the turf.

A S Henshall 1963

At HU 2241 7905, a chambered cairn, as described and planned by Henshall.

Divorced survey at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (NKB) 28 April 1969.
