(NT 0768 8368) Broomhall (NAT)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1975)

Broomhall is a modern house, the north frontage of which incorporates the old house which was built about 1650. The south front was built by the 7th Earl of Elgin (1766-1841).

T Hannan 1928.

Broomhall, the property of Lord Bruce, Lord Lieutenant of Fife, is a commodious mansion, mainly of the 18th and 19th centuries, and bearing no features externally of the 17th c house.

Visited by OS (J L D) 27 March 1961.

Though Lord Bruce alleges that Broomhall (information from Lord Bruce, Broomhall) was started in 1580, and additions made in 1705, 1766, 1799, and 1805, it is noted by the SDD as being built 1796-9, with later additions.

OS Revision 5 June 1962; HBD No. 2164
